Across Wales Ride

7 days - Felindre to Felindre

From the Welsh borders to the Irish Sea, through the magnificent Cambrian Mountains and along parts of the Glyndwr's Way and the Prince Llwewllyn Ride this trip offers the ultimate experience of riding accross the breadth of Wales.

The ride begins near Knighton on the English border and meanders through open moorland, rolling farmland, woodland and the forests of Mid Wales, to finish on a beach just north of Aberystwyth. The route uses permissive rights of way, forgotten bridle-paths, open moorland crossings, old drovers trails and quiet country lanes. Riders must have good stamina and be able to cope with long days in the saddle.Wales

This holiday is ideal for those with their own horses who would like the challenge of doing a long-distance ride, but without the hassle of recceing the route and trying to arrange the accommodation and stabling. We even arrange for your luggage to be transported each day and for you and your horse to be collected at the end of the ride and transferred back to your trailer. You can choose to travel with just your friends (in which case we will provide you with detailed directions and maps) or with a guide. You'll ride between 13 and 2o miles a day at your own pace, mostly off-road and stay overnight in farmhouse or B&B accommodation.

The Across Wales Ride provides 5 and a half days riding and 6 nights accommodation and the programme runs from Sunday to Saturday. It is the ultimate riding experience - a true long distance ride.

Day 1 (D)
Arrive Brandy House early in the afternoon. A chance to settle your horses, meet your hosts and take a short afternoon ride into the hills. There are miles and miles of bridleways and open moorland just waiting to be explored. Few of the paths are waymarked so we are unlikely to meet other riders or walkers and will find the countryside quiet and unspoiled with abundant birds and other wildlife. Those who prefer or arrive later can school their horses in the outside arena before enjoying afternoon tea. After settling the horses for the night and a refreshing shower, enjoy a pre-dinner drink and a 3-course candlelit meal.
Day 2 (B,L,D)
From the Brandy House ride along forest tracks and across open moorland to your first night's accommodation.
Day 3 (B,L,D)
The longest and most challenging ride of the week. After breakfast saddle up and ride along bridle ways, drovers tracks, across open moorland and into the Hafren Forest. Overnight at Cwmbiga.
Day 4 (B,L,D)
One of the shortest rides of the week. The route takes you along part of the Glydyr's Way, providing magnificent views of tdistant Snowdonia. Overnight at Brynllwydwyn Farm or in a B&B in Talbontdrain.Wales
Day 5 (B,L,D)
After breakfast tack up for the penultimate leg of your journey. Overnight near Talybont.
Day 6 (B,L,D)
From Talybont ride through farmland and along quiet lanes to Borth. The ride today will be dictated by the times of high tide as the water needs to be low enough for you to enjoy an exhillerating canter along the beach to Ynyslas. Here you will meet up with your transport back to Brandy House. After settling in your horse enjoy a final night's dinner.
Day 7 (B)
Depart Brandy House after breakfast.

  • Additional Information: You must ensure that your own horse s fit enough to cope with a daily ride of between 13 and 20 miles. Although most of the ride is off road, your horse should be calm in traffic, as some road work is unavoidable - most of the roads in this area are very quiet - you may meet lorries and tractors and there are three main road crossings! We will provide grazing at the end of the days riding, however if your horse requires special hard feed or hay, then this will need to be brought with you. You will be expected to attend to your own horses feeding, grooming and tacking up. There is stabling at Brandy House, Brynllwydwyn and Rhoslan if required. Elsewhere your horse will need to be able to be turned out with your riding companion's horses. If you want to rug your horse, these will be forwarded with your luggage. Your horse must be fully insured and wormed, and its' vaccinations must be up to date, for both tetanus and equine influenza. Please note you will be expected to muck out your own stable and/or pooh pick your pen at Brandy House.

If there is an outbreak of strangles in your area, please for the sake of all horses, do not be tempted to bring your horse!
