Buenos Aires

Why not extend your stay in Buenos Aires. Probably more European than South American in flavour, the heart of 'BA' as its known, boasts bustling streets, grand avenues, old-time cafes and a colourful population. It has great restaurants and is home of the Tango. Highlights include 'Teatro Nacional', the vibrant Boca district and many museums and art galleries.

Iguaza Falls

Situated on the border between Argentina and Brazil, the Iguaza Falls are strung out along the rim of a crescent-shaped cliff about four kilometres long. Some 275 individual cascades and waterfalls plummet up to 82 metres into the gorge below.

Ibera Marshlands

A two hour flight north from Buenos Aires to the town of Posadas followed by a four hour drive to the small town of San Juan Poriahu brings you to the Ibera Marshlands and the Pousada San Juan Poriahu. The Ibera Marshlands cover an area of some 9,000 square kilometres creating the perfect habitat for birds, mammals and reptiles. Staying in a comfortable estancia you will be able to explore the area on foot, by canoe or horseback. Black Caiman, Boa Constrictor and Capybara are all common here and of course the birdlife is spectacular.

Salta

Situated in the northwest, the beautiful town of Salta has retained much of its Hispanic architecture, and is a perfect base for exploration. During your stay you may choose to visit the magnificent El Rey National Park. There is plenty of flora and fauna to see including Giant Anteaters and also Tapir. Also worth a visit is the Humahuaca Gorge, a deep, narrow fault line near Salta. The gorge, which begins at an altitude of 1,300 metres, climbs steadily upwards to a height of 3,000 metres. The area is one of ever-changing multi-coloured rock formations, huge cacti, small Indian settlements and ancient archaeological sites.

The Lake District

Bariloche is only a couple of hours drive from Estancia Huechahue and is the perfect base for exploring Argentina's Lake District, Hire a car and visit the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Argentina's second largest National Park. It is a vast area of virgin woods, deep crystal lakes and snow-capped peaks of the Andes. Birdlife you may see here includes Magallenic Goose, Red-gartered Goose, Rufous-tailed Hawk, Chilean Pigeon and Giant Hummingbird.

Antartica
