Triple B Ranch
8 days - Johannesburg to Johannesburg
Triple B Ranch, is one of the oldest family farms in the Waterberg Mountains. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the ranch operates as a working cattle and game ranch and offers 9000 hectare of superb riding country. Clear blue skies, breathtaking views and vast open spaces provide the prefect setting for a magnificent riding holiday.
In order to meet individual preferences, Triple B Ranch does not run a set itinerary. They offer guidelines, but the daily activities are organised to meet each guest's specific requirements. Rides are taken in small groups of similar abilities, so that experienced riders can enjoy a faster, more challenging ride, while novices are brought on at a pace that is comfortable to them. Individual requests for private rides, flat work coaching or cross-country lessons can easily be accommodated. You can chose to play polocrosse, work with cattle or join one of a number of non-riding activities, which are always on offer for those feeling saddle weary or non-riders in the party. Triple B is also ideal for family groups and special arrangements can be made for your children, while you do more challenging (or easier) rides!
The riding country is superb. The horses run unshod on perfect sandy soil, and although the bushveld is thick in places, most of the countryside is open, flat and perfect for extended canters. The topography consists of gently rolling hills leading to picturesque views on all sides. The occasional rocky koppie provides an ideal vantage spot from which to appreciate the vastness of the Waterberg plateau. Swimming the horses in one of the many dams is an excellent way to cool down after a long morning ride.
- Day 1
- You are met on arrival and transferred by road to Horizon. After lunch and a chance to freshen up take an introductory afternoon ride to explore the farms beautiful surroundings. (L,D)
- Day 2 to Day 7
- A stay at Horizon does not run to a set itinerary. Daily activities are tailored to meet your personal requirements. You can chose to take an 'outride' within the private game reserve which will offer the opportunity to ride with species such as giraffe, zebra, impala, red hartebeest, eland and reedbuck, as well as many of the smaller mammals such as jackal, baboons, monkeys and warthog.
Alternatively you can take lessons in flatwork or cross country, try your hand at polocrosse, an amalgam of polo and lacrosse, or at cattle mustering. Those interested in yet another challenge on horseback can join in the fun of western games. Barrel racing and pole bending are fun ways of schooling yourself in the art of light commands and quick responses.
Family groups can be split into adults and children. The youngsters can go off and muster cattle and try some cutting whilst the adults ride over to a local homestead for a tour of the farm. The whole family can try their hand at 'Bush Le Trec', a bushveld sport that involves orienteering and accomplishing a set of challenges such as river crossings and target shooting.
For intermediate riders and above, you can opt to take a 2-night wilderness safari during your stay - this is payable locally and is a wonderful experience where you will have the opportunity to ride with more game species including white rhino you will also be taught the signs of the wild and the medicinal values of the bushes and trees. The nights are spent in a stone and thatch lodge with swimming pool. (B,L,D)
