Jordan Explorer
10 days - Amman to Amman
Have you ever dreamed of galloping through the unspoiled valleys of the biblical land of Jordan, of experiencing the mystical, dream-like landscape of Lawrence's Arabia from the back of an Arab steed, of riding through the canyons and gorges travelled by the Bedouins over the centuries and sleeping under the star-filled desert sky?
This fabulous ride starts with a visit to the King's Highway and Petra 'the rose red city, half as old as time', before following in the footsteps of Laurence of Arabia across the desert on fine Arabian mares. You will experience stunning scenery, deep sand dunes and stony plains. You will pass towering wind sculpted rock formations that rise vertically from the desert floor, visit Bedouin tribes and spend your nights under the stars. The trip finishes at Aqaba where you have a day free to swim or just relax after the ride.
The pace varies depending on the terrain but you will need to be a fit and confident rider prepared to cover up to 45 kilometres in a day. A vehicle carries all your luggage and the camp equipment and you move camp every one or two nights.
You will stay in good three-star hotels whilst in Amman, Petra and Aqaba - if you would like to upgrade to 4 star properties please let us know and we can arrange an upgrade supplement for you. Whilst riding in the desert, camps are set up in wilderness areas. Two person tents, mattresses and sleeping bags are provided but on warm nights you may prefer to sleep out under the stars. Washing facilities are extremely basic. However, eating delicious local dishes prepared over an open fire while watching the sand turn to deep orange as the sun sets is a magical way to end a day on horseback.
