Show Jumping & Trail Riding

Improve your show jumping skills and enjoy trail rides in the stunning wilderness areas on Portugal's Green Coast. The ride takes place from the same equestrian centre as our 'Classical Dressage & Trail Riding' itinerary. Located on the border of the Peneda-Geres National Park, a stunningly beautiful wilderness of rugged boulder-strewn mountains interspersed with the bright purple and yellow of heathers and gorses, where animals like the wild Iberian Wolf, the "Garrano" (wild north Portuguese mountain horse) and many other local species, may be seen.
The show jumping programme is run by Joao Silva, a certified instructor and accomplished eventing rider, and Francisco Fleming, who consistently ranks as one of Portugal's top ten show-jumpers. Lessons will be a combination of flat work (with the dressage riders) and specific show jumping lessons focusing on improving your skills. There is a superb indoor arena at Hippikos (26 x 64 metres) providing ideal facilities for winter tuition. The day is not all lessons and work, the programme also entails trail riding in the countryside to experience the beauty of Portugal and to get to know your Lusitano in a more relaxed setting.
You will be accommodated at the equestrian centre in the same guesthouse as is used for the dressage ride. An indoor swimming pool and a tennis court are available for your use. With stunning views of the surrounding valley and only 35 minutes from the beach, this is the perfect base to combine riding, relaxation and exploring the local area. For golf enthusiasts, the Ponte de Lima Golf Club is just 12.5 miles from Hippikos.
- Day 1
- You will be met and transferred from Porto Airport to the beautiful guesthouse at the Equestrian Centre. (D)
- Day 2 to Day 6
- During the next five days you will ride for between three and four hours each day. There will normally be two 60-minute lessons (combining show jumping and flat work for warm up) and a trail ride through the stunning countryside that surrounds the centre. If you would like additional instruction, or to upgrade to private lessons, then this can also be arranged for a supplement. There is also plenty of time to relax by the indoor pool, hike, play tennis or visit the nearby beaches. (B,L,D

- After breakfast you will be transferred back to the airport. (B)
