Kafue Horse Safaris
8 days - Lusaka to Lusaka
Kafue National Park in the south west of Zambia, is the largest and oldest National Park in the country, covering an area of 22,500 square kilometres and encompassing a vast and impressive range of scenery and wildlife. The park and surrounding areas are home to 23 species of large herbivores, including large herds of elephant, zebra, wildebeest and it is not uncommon to see buffalo, in herds of 1000 plus, roaming across the plains. The profusion of game in the park attracts eleven species of carnivores, including impressive packs of African Wild Dog.
The riding terrain is varied - huge teak forests, endless open plains and the shoreline of the great Lake Itezhi-tezhi. Typically, the days will start with an early morning call and breakfast, followed by a morning ride exploring the National Park and tracking game. You will generally ride for three hours in the morning, return to the lodge for brunch and then have a chance to relax by the pool before riding again in the afternoon. You may also have the opportunity to include a guided safari walk and spend one night camping under an open-sided Lapa. The historic Nkala Fortified Camp is also within riding distance of the lodge and provides an interesting addition to the itinerary.
The combination of large herds of big game and the diversity of landscape and wildlife make this horse safari a truly amazing experience.
