Siruai Safari
9 days - Nairobi to Nairobi
There are few better ways to experience East Africa than through the eyes of Siruai's guides, Mark and his life long Maasai friend Kaapen. Both of these remarkable men are Kenyan born and bred and their passion, knowledge and experience will bring your safari to life.
Canter over plains dotted with wildebeest and alongside galloping zebra. Explore the Mara on horseback, by vehicle or take a night game drives and encounter elephant, buffalo, lion and an array of antelope species.
Mark has a carefully chosen selection of thoroughbred / thoroughbred cross horses from both Kenya and Zimbabwe. The horses, being the most important part of your holiday, are well schooled and bush-wise and will bring you tangibly closer to every aspect of the bush. Most of the rides are on open plains interspersed with acacia bush. Many areas have short grass - ideal for fast riding, although care must be taken to avoid holes
- Day 1 (L,D)
- Morning flight from Nairobi to the Maasai Mara. On arrival in the Mara you will be collected from the airstrip and transferred, game-viewing en-route, back to the camp. After lunch and a chance to settle in, take an afternoon ride which will enable you and your horse to get used to each other.
- Day 2 (B,L,D)
- Early morning ride, returning to camp for breakfast. The rest of the day spent exploring this magical area on the horses, by car, or on foot. Again night drives can be very rewarding.
- Day 3 (B,L,D)
- Your first moving day. After breakfast, ride through vast tracts of open country, heading for the BBQ and water stop for the horses, beneath the Bardamat Hills. After a siesta, mount up again and climb through scenic hills to the new camp site. Set on a bluff offering unparalleled views, this is a new concession that Siruai have just negotiated with the local Maasai.
- Day 4 (B,L,D)
- A day spent exploring this untouched area of the Mara.
- Day 5 (B,L,D)
- Another moving day, this time carrying lunch in your saddle bags. Ride west, through open country, to the Njaknjiak Gorge for a refreshing lunch time swim in the rock pools. In the cooler hours, head for the camp pitched on the Olare Orok stream.
- Days 6 to 8 (B,L,D)
- For the next three days you'll be based at Acacia Camp exploring the region by horse, or if preferred vehicle. There will be a chance to interact with the local Maasai and generally do as you wish. Sundowners, a Mara River BBQ, night drives, are all available options.
- Day 9 (B)
- After breakfast, drive to the nearest airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi.
