The Horses & the Riding

ABOUT THE RIDING

Romania

Style of Riding: English but on a loose rein.

Type of Riding. Due to the mountainous terrain, it is necessary to walk much of the time with some trotting; however, each trail has places suitable for good canters. This area is unspoilt and hardly touched by tourism. Mountains in the region reach 8,000 feet (2,400m), and the rides reach over 5,000 feet (1,500m) with extensive views. It is a wonderful area for riding, with plenty of open space, and varied scenery. There is much to see of cultural interest, with local people living in conditions that have changed little over hundreds of years. Horses are still widely used for farming and forestry. Some of the trails are very historic, having been used since medieval times or even earlier.

Type of Tack: Western, English GPs and endurance saddles are used on all horses.

Hours Riding: 4 to 6 hours per day, broken up by a lunch stop.

Riding Ability Required: Intermediate upwards..

Minimum/Maximum no. of Riders: 2/8

Number of Guides per Ride: Generally 1 guide.

Grooming: Guests are not expected to groom or tack-up but are welcome to assist if they wish.
