ABOUT THE RIDING

Style of Riding: Western - the horses are schooled to neck rein.

Type of Riding: Trail Ride/Centre-Based - The different routes of "cabalgatas la sierra" run through the mountains that surround a large lake. Beautiful forests, meadows, valleys, rivers, streams and agricultural land make each days??? ride a kaleidoscope of natural wonders.

Type of Tack: The tack ranges from Mexican Charro saddles (similar to the Western, but with a bigger horn and a wider seat) to Western saddles as well as including a number of well kept English saddles (Crosby, Stubben, etc.), all of them have comfortable sheep-skin seat savers. Big saddlebags with rain gear inside are part of the tack. Riders can carry their water bottles and personal items in them. Special leather strings at the sides of the saddles can be used to tie jackets or sweaters to the saddles.

Hours in the Saddle: Full day rides are 5 to 6 hours with a stop made for a picnic lunch.

Riding Ability Required: Experienced Intermediate upward. Riders are always carefully matched to their horse, according to their riding abilities and preferences. The outfitters are always open to change saddles or horses as many times as a rider may need - until he or she can feel comfortable on both, horse and saddle.

Maximum Weight: 100Kgs (14st4lbs)

Number of Guides per Ride: 1. The rides are always lead by one of the bilingual hosts and owners. They know the area and choose the most beautiful paths of the region, thus making each ride a very special one.

Minimum/Maximum number of riders in group:2/12.

Looking after the horse: The staff takes care of feeding, grooming and tacking-up the horses, so you don't have to do anything unless you want to, for the pleasure of getting better acquainted with your mount.

CABALGATAS LA SIERRA runs a herd that includes Trakhenners, Thoroughbreds, Quarters, Appendix, and Criollo. All the horses are in excellent condition and well schooled. The horses are between 15-17 hh and have temperaments from very calm and quiet to quite spirited
