The Riding

This weekend is aimed at people with their own horses although arrangements can be made for accompanying friends to hire a horse locally. Horses can either be stabled or penned with electric fencing - the choice is yours. However stabling is limited to just four horses and is on a first-come, first served basis.

Hours in the Saddle: Depending on when you arrive the first day will comprise of a short (2 to 3 hour) ride. On the following two days, between 5 and 6 hours a day will be spent in the saddle. A final morning's ride of about 3 hours is available if required.

Pace of Ride: The actual pace of ride will be dictated by your group and the fitness of the horses as safety is of paramount importance. Those wishing to go faster than the main group are welcome to do so at their own risk.

The terrain is mainly open moorland, with plenty of long grassy rides for cantering and galloping. However, please note some of the going is uneven and there are steep ascents and descents, some of which may require you dismounting and leading your horse.

Riding Ability Required: Intermediate upwards. If hiring a horse you must have had previous experience in looking after and caring for a horse.

Minimum/Maximum number of riders in group: 2/10

Grooming: You will be expected to look after your own horse, including mucking out the stable and pooh picking the pen. Please note you will also need to bring your own short feed and grooming equipment.
