The Riding

This weekend is aimed at people with their own horses. We will provide grazing at the end of the days riding, however if your horse requires special hard feed or hay, then this will need to be brought with you. You will be expected to attend to your own horses feeding, grooming and tacking up. There is stabling at Brandy House, and may be available elsewhere if required. Your horse will need to be able to turned out in the company of your riding companion's horses. If you want to rug your horse, the rugs will be forwarded with your luggage. Your horse must be fully insured and wormed, and its' vaccinations must be up to date, for both tetanus and equine influenza. Please note you will be expected to muck out your own stable and/or pooh pick your pen.
Wales

Hours in the Saddle: Depending on when you arrive, the first day will comprise of a short (2 to 3 hour) ride. Thereafter the actual time spent in the saddle will depend on the pace you choose and (if you are riding without a guide) how good you are at following directions/reading a map. However we would expect you to be riding beween 5 and 8 hours a day.

Pace of Ride: The actual pace of ride will be dictated by you and your group and the fitness of the horses. Although there are opportunities for long canters, this is not a fast ride. You will be crossing Wales and each day will be facing different challenges, be these fording streams or tackling steep descents/ascents. Safety of horse and rider should be of paramount importance.

The trail takes in open moorland, old drovers trails, forest tracks, bridleways and quiet country lanes. There are three main road crossings. Please note some of the going is uneven and some ascents and descents may require you dismounting and leading your horse.

Riding Ability Required: Intermediate upwards.

Minimum/Maximum number of riders in group: 2/4. Larger groups can be catered for on request.

Grooming: You will be expected to look after your own horse, including mucking out the stable and pooh picking the pen/paddock. Please note you will also need to bring your own short feed, hay, rugs, tack and grooming equipment.
