What to Pack
The Western Cape is guaranteed free of malaria and bilharzias. With its Mediterranean climate it is seldom too hot along the sea or up in the mountains, and active horse riders can enjoy their outings throughout the year. Average day temperature in the height of Summer (December to February) is 28 degrees centigrade; in the winter season (June to August) it drops to 17 degrees, when light morning frost is a possibility.
If you join one of the drag hunting trips during the winter, full hunting gear is required. As heavy rain can occur during the winter season, full wet riding gear is also appropriate.
