What to Pack

New Zealand's island climate ranges from warm subtropical in the far north to cool temperate in the south island. Like the UK, New Zealand is known for a high rainfall, particularly along the west coast. Our ride takes place in a mountainous region and alpine conditions may apply. We would recommend you take plenty of layers, which can be put on quickly .

Please note there is a maximum baggage allowance of 12kgs for this ride.

  • Swimming Costume
  • Jodhpurs or riding trousers.
  • Short riding boots or ride/walk boots such as Ariat Terrain.
  • Half chaps.
  • Long sleeved shirt and/or T shirts,
  • Fleece/warm clothing.
  • Thermal vest.
  • Underwear - cycling shorts are ideal for long days in the saddle.
  • Waterproof/windproof jacket and trousers.
  • Gloves.
  • Sun hat.
  • Casual clothes for evening.
  • Trainers or comfortable shoes for evening.
  • 4-seasons sleeping bag.
  • Towel,
  • Head torch
  • Personal toiletries.
  • Sun block.
  • Lip balm.
  • Camera, film, batteries and binoculars.

Riding hats are not mandatory. However, we strongly recommend that you always ride in a hat and that it conforms to BHS requirements (PAS015, BSEN1384). Riding without a hat could affect a claim on insurance.
