What to Pack
We would suggest the following:
- All outer riding equipment needs to be new, disinfected or dry cleaned. (Some items such as wax jackets, leather gloves and helmets can not be disinfected). Any of these items have to be 'convincingly new' and accompanied by a recent receipt.
- Any items (such as boots) that have been disinfected need to have a certificate/receipt as proof. This service can be carried out and provided by Hospitals, Veterinary Clinics or the Red Cross.
- Jodhpurs will be accepted as long as they appear clean however a recent dry cleaning receipt is recommended.
You should be ready for all kinds of weather as the weather can change very quickly.
- Riding boots - preferably rubber, because of the rivers crossed.
- Warm jacket or overcoat.
- Jodhpurs or riding trousers.
- Fleece
- Warm socks and gloves, at least 2 pairs, scarf and a hat or cap.
- Thermal underwear. Cycling shorts are good for long days in the saddle.
- Tracksuit or casual clothes for evening.
- A pair of slippers to wear in the accommodation. (Icelanders take off their shoes when entering a house).
- Swimsuit, towels, soap etc.
- Head torch
- Personal toiletries.
- Sun block.
- Lip balm.
- Camera, film, batteries and binoculars.
- Small pillow.
- Ear plugs. Some peole snore.
- Insect repellent, gnat head cover.
Ishestar provide saddle bags, rain wear and helmets; although we would recommend you take your own (new) hat.
Riding hats are not mandatory. However, we strongly recommend that you always ride in a hat and that it conforms to BHS requirements (PAS015, BSEN1384). Riding without a hat could effect a claim on insurance.
